Who aM I?

Hello!

Bria Miller, also known as Blue, is a Philadelphia-based multimedia artist whose work centers identity, healing, and liberation within the Black diaspora. Rooted in the cultural vibrancy of Philadelphia and informed by her Gullah Geechee and Caribbean heritage, her practice spans across painting, collage, sculpture, poetry, and audio storytelling.

From an early age, creative expression became central to Blue’s life. As a child she performed at Philadelphia’s Freedom Theatre, danced at studios like Kinesics Dance Dynamics, wrote poetry, and choreographed performances which were experiences that shaped her understanding of art as both refuge and possibility. Today, she continues to approach art as a portal for reflection, imagination, and connection.

Blue’s work is deeply influenced by her lived experience as a queer Black woman growing up in Philadelphia, specifically the Germantown area. As a dark-skinned Black woman, Blue became aware early on of the ways people who look like her are often masculinized, dismissed, or rendered invisible. Art became a soft place to land within these realities. Her pieces often explore the tension between softness and resilience within Black communities, revealing the beauty, complexity, and emotional depth that exist within spaces often reduced to “the hood.” Through bold color, symbolic imagery, and dreamlike environments, she creates visual worlds that center vulnerability, presence, and possibility.

In 2025, Blue began to push her art into shared spaces. She was invited as an exhibiting artist at Darien Woodard’s "Queer Memoirs” film screening and later hosted cast interviews. Additionally, Blue became a recipient of Creative PHL’s 2026 Illuminate the Arts Grant, which inspired her to continue expanding the scale and ambitions of her work. Since then, Blue’s work, “RBF,” featured in an article from Brown Style Magazine which critiqued societal beauty standards.
